Navigating GCSEs can be daunting at first. But with these helpful tips, we hope you find it much more easier and manageable.
One of the most important things to control as a student is your time. Without time management, you're going to struggle to find the time to study and relax. The best way to stay organised is by scheduling your time with different tasks throughout the day, giving an adequate amount of time to complete each task so that by the end of the day, all your tasks have been completed. Don't forget to include time for breaks too!
The place where you study is just as important as what you study, and yet it is often neglected. A tidy workspace makes it easier to feel more motivated to study, and can also help limit distractions. It is important you study in a space where there is little to no noise to help improve your focus. Also ensure your studying equipment (such as books, pens, calculators) are all nearby to make the studying process much more easier.
It seems like an obvious one, but many students forget to eliminate all distractions while studying. This includes your phone! While it is best to place your phone in an entirely different room, putting it on Do Not Disturb can make such a difference to your focus. The last thing you need is a pop-up notification from your friend that distracts you!
In order to do well, you must be able to master all exam content. And to do this, the specification will be your best friend. Each subject has a specification uploaded on the exam board website which includes a list of every topic that can come up in your exam. The exam would never go beyond the specification so as long as you understand everything on the specification, you're well on your way to a grade 9! Use the specification in your revision to know exactly what you need to and don't need to learn so you can study effectively.
This last one may seem like an obvious one but its something a lot of students neglect and fail to prioritise. You've heard it from your parents before but it is very important to get a good nights sleep in order to perform well in exams and learn in school. In order for your brain to work hard, it needs its own relaxation time too. Remember to sleep early to get those 8 hours in!
We hope these tips are useful for you and good luck on your exams!
